Why do I need a Will, I have nothing to leave!

As Estate Planners we tend to hear this a lot. So, here are some of the reasons why we recommend that everyone has a Will written.

We all want to make sure that our loved ones are taken care of when we die, but if you don't have any money in the bank, investments or a house to leave them it's easy to miss the point of writing your Will.

However, having a Will in place does more than just leave money to your family!

What about your Material Possessions?

Over our lifetime we can accumulate a lot of material possessions, such as clothes, mobile phones, electrical items and cars to name a few. Maybe you have jewellery you want to leave to your children, or items which you would be of sentimental value to go to your family or friends. Remember even your furniture has to go somewhere!!

Who would look after your Pets?

As a nation of animal lovers many of us think of our pets as family. So, have you thought about who would be willing to look after them?

Who would be the Guardians of your Children?

For those of us with children, the most important thing you can do for them, as a parent, is to ensure you have someone you trust to look after them if the worst should happen.

Many people respond by saying "Well, my sister/brother/uncle/auntie (there are clearly many options here) will look after them". However, without your written wishes this wouldn't necessarily be who would become the Guardian.

Your children could end up with someone you wouldn't want to look after them. Ultimately it could end up being the Courts that decide!

What if you are an Unmarried Couple?

Many people are unaware that unmarried couples do not automatically inherit their partners assets if one of them were to die without a Will in place.

Having a Will in place allows you to state your wishes in all these situations and more, giving you peace of mind if the worst should happen.

We all have something we want to leave someone, so why not contact us at Holistic Law today and let us help you ensure your wishes are known
